Yeah, lucky me.
I think these things are created by the CIA just to fuck with people like me. So, anyway, it is May, 1964. I don't even remember who the old fucker was talking to, but whoever it is is trying to convince him to send more troops, make more of a commitment to the war in Vietnam. At the time, there were only 16,000 US "advisors" there.
So here's Lyndun, drawling on about "Waaalll, I dunno? What is the point of it all? How can we win anything there? Once we get in, how the hell can we get out? What about the Chinese? How can we possibly get involved in a land war 10,000 miles away? We can't win!"
I am supposed to believe that LBJ was nothing but a goddamned commie liberal peacenik. Well, if it is true, then I want to spit on his grave.
Robert S. MacNamara was LBJ's Defense Secretary. I read his book about Vietnam. He said that everyone in the whitehouse and the pentagon knew that the war was stupid and hopeless and wrong. But they were willing to send more troops to die and get crippled and go insane, and napalm more villages full of families until they could "figure it out." A hilk.
They agreed with the protesters in the streets, even as they had them spied on, even as the used agents provocateurs to incite violence, even as they rounded them up and squared off a few heads. Showed the little bastards.
Why am I still capable of shock? Why does it piss me off all over again?
